# OLX Scam — What to Do and How to Try to Recover Your Money? After an OLX scam, contact your bank immediately, secure the evidence, report the matter to OLX, and notify the police; a quick response may help, but recovering the money is not guaranteed. > Updated: 2026-10-28 · Damian Jabłoński, Łowca (lowca-okazji.com) · https://lowca-okazji.com/en/pomoc/olx-scam-how-to-recover-money-and-what-to-do ## The First Hour After an OLX Scam After an OLX scam, contact your bank immediately, secure the evidence, report the matter to OLX, and notify the police; a quick response may help, but recovering the money is not guaranteed. First, stop contacting the seller and do not send any more money. Do not click any more links from the conversation or provide additional data, even if the other person promises to return the money. Next, contact your bank through the channel intended for urgent reports. Say that the payment may have gone to a scammer. Prepare the amount, date, recipient's account number or transaction details, and a description of the situation. If you provided card details, block or cancel the card according to the bank's procedure. If you logged in to your bank through a suspicious website, inform the bank that your login details may have been compromised. Secure the evidence before the conversation or listing is deleted. Take screenshots of the listing, the seller's profile, the entire conversation, the payment confirmation, links, and emails. Save the listing address and the date and time of the most important events. ## Contact the Bank First Describe the payment method clearly to the bank. One procedure may apply to a card payment, while another may apply to a bank transfer. Reporting the matter does not mean that the money will be returned automatically. For a card payment, ask the bank about the possibility of filing a complaint and the chargeback procedure. A chargeback is an attempt to recover funds through the payment organization. The bank may ask for transaction confirmation, a description of the scam, correspondence with the seller, and a report submitted to the relevant institutions. For a bank transfer, report the scam to the bank as quickly as possible. Ask whether the bank can attempt to recover the funds or contact the recipient's bank. The possibility of a refund depends, among other things, on whether the money is still in the recipient's account and on the circumstances of the transaction. Do not wait for the seller's response before reporting the matter to the bank. Delay may make it more difficult to take action concerning the transaction. Keep the complaint reference number and all messages received from the bank. If the scammer obtained login details, authorization codes, or card details, say so explicitly. The bank may recommend additional steps to secure the account and payment instrument. ## How to Report a Scam on OLX It is worth reporting the scam on OLX after saving the evidence. Report the listing, the seller's account, or the conversation using the reporting function available on OLX. Select a reason related to fraud or an attempted scam. Describe the most important facts in the order in which they happened. State what was purchased, how much was paid, when the payment was made, how the seller conducted the conversation, and why you consider the transaction a scam. Include information that will help locate the listing and account. Useful materials include screenshots, the listing address, the profile name, the transfer confirmation, payment details, and the entire correspondence. Do not delete the conversation before making a copy. Do not send OLX your bank passwords or authorization codes. Such data is not needed to report a listing. If you receive a message after reporting the matter asking for another payment or a document scan, do not follow these instructions without independently confirming their source. A report on OLX helps provide the platform with information about a suspicious listing or account. It does not replace a report to the bank or a police notification. ## Police and CERT Polska: Where to Report the Matter Report the suspected scam to the police. Describe the course of the transaction, provide the amount, dates, account or payment details, and the way you contacted the seller. Provide copies of the evidence and keep the originals. Include screenshots of the listing, profile, conversation, payment confirmation, and any emails. Also keep the addresses of the websites to which the link redirected you and information about what data was entered there. Do not alter the screenshots or crop out elements that may show the date, website address, or account name. If the conversation took place outside OLX, keep that part of the correspondence as well. Report a phishing website connected with the listing to CERT Polska. This applies when a link impersonated OLX, a bank, a payment provider, or another service and was intended to obtain login details, card details, or codes. CERT Polska handles reports concerning phishing and malicious websites. A report to CERT Polska does not replace contacting the bank, reporting the matter on OLX, or notifying the police. ## Is It Possible to Recover Money After a Scam? Recovering money after an OLX scam is possible in some situations, but none of the steps described guarantees a refund. The most important thing is to report the payment to the bank quickly and provide a complete set of evidence. A card payment may allow you to use the chargeback procedure. This does not mean that the complaint will automatically be accepted. The bank assesses the case based on the type of transaction, the documents, and the applicable procedures. For a bank transfer, ask the bank whether it can attempt to recover the funds. Neither the bank nor the police can guarantee that the money will be returned. The time of the report and whether the funds are still available in the recipient's account may matter. A report on OLX may lead to the listing or account being reviewed, but it is not a money-refund procedure. A police notification also does not mean that the funds will be paid out immediately. ## How to Avoid Being Scammed on Your Next Purchase - Do not pay outside a secure process if the seller pressures you to make a quick transfer or sends you a payment link. - Check the website address, recipient details, conversation history, and whether the information matches the listing. - A price that is too low, time pressure, and a request for a code or card details are signs that you should stop the transaction and check the offer more carefully. After making a payment, the right course of action is to contact the bank quickly, secure the evidence, and report the matter to the relevant institutions. Łowca may be useful earlier, before contacting the seller. It shows warning signs for listings, including information about increased risk, but it does not detect scams with certainty. The decision to make contact and pay still has to be made independently. ## Frequently asked questions ### Is it possible to recover money after an OLX scam?
